Where There's no Will There's No Way...

By

Stephen Drury

... they have not taken proper planning to care for their families, nor are they leaving a bequest gift for their local assembly or the ministries they love the most.

A well-known saying by Benjamin Franklin states, "... but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."  All of us are paying taxes, yet less than one-half of adult Americans are preparing for the eventuality of death or the possibility of becoming incapacitated.

Having a will is a vital plan that every person should have in place.  Added to the will should be durable powers of attorney to take care of your business matters and make health care decisions in the event of becoming incapacitated.

Many pastors feel that either they are not equipped to discuss this with their congregants or  perhaps they should not deal with these matters from their leadership position as they could be misunderstood.  Yet many pastors then deal with the aftermath of helping families when there is not a good plan in place.

The Stewardship Group is available to assist our pastors in bringing a seminar to your assembly to discuss why members need a will and durable powers of attorney.  Information is presented on how to make sure they have enough insurance to care for their families should they pass away while they still have children in the home.  Subjects such as how they can leave a legacy gift for the local assembly and other ministries that they love are also covered.

But, Where There's no Will There's No Way... any of these areas are covered.  The Stewardship Group has district stewardship directors in many states or we can come help you teach your church family how to make a plan for themselves and the ones they love. You may contact us at smdrury@upci.org or 314-837-7304 Ext 309.
